Words about music (10): Ian Gillan

Some people think you should give the audience what they want, while I think that they don't deserve the same old stuff, over and over, year in year out. That is the responsibility of the artist: to serve up something fresh now and then. It's no use getting miffed with the punters if they seem bored to death and refusing to do an encore because you feel the audience don't deserve it. Supreme talent has to collide with reality sometimes or, like cream, it goes off.
