CBGB’s book
A great club deserves a good book. And Shane Handler wrote it.
It can be argued that CBGB's is the most important club in rock ‘n’ roll history. As one of the last places in Manhattan in the mid 1970s that allowed you to play original rock, owner Hilly Kristal encouraged spontaneity and creativity in his club that stood for country, bluegrass and blues. CBGB's gave bands like Television, Dead Boys, Ramones, Talking Heads, Patti Smith and Blondie a place to hang out, rehearse and form a musical identity, which in turn was a launching pad for a new era of music – punk rock and new-wave. Standing dank, dark and dirty as the polar opposite to the swank Studio 54 in the late 70’s NYC, CBGB’s came alive when the lights went down.

Jazz Mandolin Project: The Deep Forbidden Lake
A new album by The Jazz Mandolin Project: The Deep Forbidden Lake.
The album's namesake number, along with "Winterlong," are two of the featured Neil Young compositions that provide the album it's "outdoorsy" feel, reinvented in ways far from familiar on Young's Decade compilation. But the album's highlight is a stirring rendition of Tom Waits' "Ol' 55" where Masefield's picking provides as much tenderness as any of his own compositions. Thankfully, the improvisation plays second fiddle to the melodies and arrangements on Deep Forbidden Lake, which allows this incarnation of the Jazz Mandolin to shine in a new, yet familiar setting.

Jam in the Dam 2006: singlennight toickerts for Europeans only
Two weekends in march 2006 at De Melkweg in Amsterdam with a line-up of great jam bands ... You have to buy an really expensive ticket ($169.00 pre-sale, $199.00) for each weekend. You are out of luck if want to buy a ticket for just one night. Damn Yankees!

I wrote an angry e-mail to the responsible dudes and there is a bit of good news for Europeans:
There's no need to be nasty. We sold alot of one night tickets last year. Unfortunately, this is a very expensive show to produce, and we have to sell all the three night tickets we can. That's reality. That being said, we will have one night tickets available at the door, but only for Europeans with ID. I wish there were about 1000 of you there. There aren't. See you in March.

It’s melodic lead bass, I suppose. It was Ian who spotted that the relationship between high bass and low, chunky guitar was really interesting and unusual. My style of writing and playing came from that. Also, when I started playing bass I had an old Sunn bass cab with an 18" speaker. It was just dreadful—you couldn’t hear a bleedin’ thing. That was another reason I started playing so high, because the bottom end was just awful.
