Neil has been recording the new album in Nashville with keyboardist Spooner Oldham, pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith and drummer Carl Himmel. Noticed the "archives volume #1 will follow" line? Ho hum.
My technique is laughable at times. I have developed a style of my own, I suppose, which creeps around. I don't have to have too much technique for it. I've developed the parts of my technique that are useful to me. I'll never be a very fast guitar player. I don't really know what to say about my style. There's always a melodic intent in there.

Does the world need another singer songwriter? Hell no. We've got plenty of them - a guy or a gal with a guitar singing about his everyday this and that. OK, so why do I like Tom Langford so much? His third album Here Comes Memory sounds intimate, the kind of record a longtime friend would bring along as a surprise gift. You have heard it all before, but who gives a fuck. There is bit of Jim White in the rhythm section - more upfront than usual for this kind of music, and a bit of Chris Isaac phrasing before he believed in his own stage persona.
"I've gotten good at chasing shadows", intones Langford. And you better believe him. Here Comes Memory is a little gem. Check out his site and listen to a couple of MP3 snippets. The album is available through CDBaby.com.

CS Leigh’s harrowing, unforgettable film Process would be beautifully troubling even without John Cale’s piano-based soundtrack, but Cale provides it with an extra set of claws. The movie’s about despair and suicide, basically. It’s stern, detached, but the combination of Leigh’s aesthetic, Beatrice Dalle’s career-subverting role and Cale’s (almost omnipresent) discordant keyboard renders it deeply affecting. Imagine the polar opposite of feelgood. Cale and Leigh found their collaboration so productive that they’re already working on two new films together - American Widow, and the Warhol/Factory story Everybody Had A Camera, which they’re co-writing. Cale enjoyed the “total freedom” Leigh granted him, to accompany “the most disturbing film”. And though he’s previously scored some mighty films, from early Warhols (Kiss, Eat) to Jonathan Demme’s Something Wild to Mary Harron’s I Shot Andy Warhol and American Psycho, this could well be Cale’s most striking and chilling effort to date. Its sound landscape is extreme, resonant, and groundbreaking in a field where ground isn’t broken too often. There’s something jolie-laide about it. Arguably echoes of Nyman or Glass insist in the phases of repetition, but that’d be a glib comparison: they were rarely this sparse, naked. Leigh and Cale take no prisoners. You’re challenged, provoked, by the kind of piano notes that transform a room. Play this at home and you’re not at home. Wherever it’s taken you, you’re uneasy, anxious. The 13-minute “Suicide Theme” is emerging as a limited edition vinyl 10”, which is perverse (its anguish making possibly the least commercial record of all time). The spirit of The Velvets lives here, far more bloodily than in Reed’s recent pomp-strosities. One thing: the film’s credits roll with The Jam’s “That’s Entertainment” - a move so boldly ironic that audience members gasp at the gall. It would’ve worked to include that here, too. An ultra conservative parents' group in America is demanding a fine to be levied on US network ABC for violating broadcast standards.
The Parents Television Council is urging authorities to take action against the network and its affiliates because it failed to censor a single swear word during the recent Live 8 concert in London's Hyde Park on July 2, 2005.
The offending song was "Who Are You" and the line was "who the fuck are you?" performed by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who.

Cream will perform three shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden on October 24, 25 and 26. While no official statement has been made, these performances are believed to be the band’s first full stateside shows since disbanding in the late 1960s. As previously reported, Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker reunited in early May for a series of appearances at London’s Royal Albert Hall. With the exception of a 1993 reunion at the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, those three shows marked the group’s first performance since disbanding in 1968. Be sure to check back in the coming weeks for more information.

Live In Denmark: this title is now the first in a projected series of Deep Purple archive releases. Deep Purple - Live In 1972/73 - The Deep Purple Dvd Archive Collection will include the complete Denmark 1972 show, reauthored from the original video master, together with the legendary New York Hofstra University 1973 footage. The latter is in colour, and lasts around 25 minutes. Some clips from this appeared on the Eagle DVD "Machine Head", but the new DVD will contain ALL that survives, and this is the first time it has appeared anywhere.
