David Dramm: The Last Jukebox on Earth + Orange Slice

A very special night at the BIMhuis in Amsterdam. Guitarist David Dramm presents a three hour show called The Last Jukebox on Earth and performs his own piece Orange Slice. The show is part of the Holland Festival.

This is 'The Last Jukebox on Earth' and David Dramm is picking the records. Dramm has assembled a top ensemble of international players to test out his extreme makeovers of everyone from Edgar Varèse to Western Swing mavericks Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. A marathon of volcanic piano eruptions of Iannis Xenakis and obscure pop jewels from Burt Bacharach, Pierrot Lunaire and Moon River, the Sex Pistols and Rodgers & Hammerstein. Or is it all just Dramm, whose music has been described as “kaleidoscopic” and “the ground-breaking terrain between Charles Ives, Jimi Hendrix and Lou Reed?” BIMhuis and Holland Festival offer a carte-blanche evening to the “Derrida among composers.” This unique evening ends with a performance of Dramm’s ‘Orange Slice’ which the Swiss press hailed as “monumental...the sound of ecstasy.”
