You can rely on the Levellers. Britain's finest folk rockers with a policital conscience have been making albums since 1990, but they are a live act first and a recording band second. Their new album Letters From The Underground deals with contaminated water (The Cholera Well), refugees caught in raging wars, terrorist bombings (Behold A Pale Rider) and the USA trying to police the world and failing (Burn America Burn).
What make the Levellers bearable for less politically conscious concert goers is their high energy with the fiddle taking center stage, sometimes aided by didgeridoo player Stephen Boakes. The band gives it their all night after night, and so do the fans.
Levellers:
Mark Chadwick: vocals, guitar, harmonica
Simon Friend: guitar, banjo, vocals, mandolin, harmonica
Jeremy Cunningham: bass guitar, vocals
Charlie Heather: drums
Jon Sevink: fiddle
Matt Savage: keyboards, backing vocals
Letters From The Underground is released on On The Fiddle Recordings.
