Lykke Li, a singer from Sweden, has been hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread with her leftfield pop musings. Her album Youth Novels is the kind of record that Bjork could have came up with if she was still focusing on the music instead of the packaging.
Quirky and a bit self-indulgent in her writings about her current state of mind Youth Novels shows a lot of promise. Her musical ideas set her apart from "the girl with a guitar" crowd. Let's hope she stays that way and shuts the door in the face of any manager with ramblings about being able to reach bigger audiences if she will only listen to him and cleans up her act. There are not that many musicians around who can mix classic pop with modern day electronics.
Youth Novels is released on LL Recordings.
