Eclectic minimal pop duo The Gold Mask from Chicago released their self-titled debut album on cassette, which is now almost out-of-print. They are recording songs for the follow-up, and decided to a cover of Bette Davis Eyes as a free stop-gap release. Written in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon (who also recorded it), it was the version by Kim Karnes that made the headlines: number #1 in Billboard Hot 100 in 1981, and a thumbs up by Miss Davis herself.
