Millstone Township, NJ, jam band Dialect has grown since they put three funky songs on the web for an EP that never got released. The quartet have written new tunes that more mature and compsed than the previous efforts. Especially the percussive Yanaguana is a step forward. Hitting the effect pedals the twin guitars come with interesting interplay - they switch to calypso before a bar or two a couple of times before returning to the bubbling groove.
Trey Anastasio is obviously a big influence, but getting Big Red's tone and depth will take a few more years of practice (and top shelf audio gear). Ending the album with their practice room warm-up Session Jam the band proofs that they can get pretty loose - nice funky bass and the drummer playing all over his kit.
Dialect:
Ian O'loughlin: guitar, vocals
Liam Jaeger: guitar, vocals
Andy Williamson: bass guitar
Matt Lauritsen: drums, miscellaneous percussion
