Boston band Rubblebucket are musical omnivores, but their favorite dishes consist of funk, jazz and soul. Their sophomore album Rubblebucket is a heady mixture of African rhythms, rock guitar and thundering trombone and trumpet.
Lead singer Kalmia Traver has enough power to make herself heard above the mayhem. An that's a good thing because her lyrics go a lot deeper than most high energy party time songs . Philips Van has the slow approach of the Sugarcubes and Hommage is a Far East instrumental to calm you down after being exposed to Bad Mr. Kurtz (insert your own Apocalyse Now reference here). Recommended if you like bands like Bonerama and PBS.
Rubblebucket:
Alex Toth: trumpet, vocals
Kalmia Traver: lead vocals, tenor sax
Adam Dotson: trombone, vocals
Craig Myers: percussion
Dave Cole: drums, guitar, and keyboards
Darby Wolf: keyboards
Ian Hersey: guitar
Rubblebucket is a self-released album. Buy it from the band's website.
