Cristina Martinez and Jon Spencer are into loud punk blues while Dutch artist Elisabeth Esselink, aka Solex, is onto sampling, digging out lost sounds and waving her own musical magic carpets. It's a crazy alliance, and the joint effort of the sessions of the three goes supernova, taking off in different directions.
Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown! doesn't like like any other album, but then again it sounds like dozens of albums all at one. Esselink used to own a record store and went through her huge stacks of vinyl to add beeps and blurts, unhinged vocal snippets and all sorts of left-field dance stuff to the basic tracks that were laid down by Martinez and Spencer.
An album about science fiction, dirt, monkees (Aapie is Dutch for our simian brother), perusing blues, funk, rap, rock, disco, pop and NOLA trumpets.
Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown! is released on Bronzerat Records. Release date; April 5 (UK and Ireland). May 11 (USA and Canada, Australia and NZ).
