Nashville based singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier has come up with The Foundling, an autobiographical album that tells story of finding her birth mother, finding her only to discover that she can't handle the reunion with her daughter who she had given up for adoption, shortly after she was born on March 11, 1962.
Mary turned into a wild teenager, got kicked out of school and got her fair share of substance abuse and alcoholism. "I Drink" of her 1999 album Drag Queens in Limousines became her signature song for years on end. The Foundling finds her a bit older, sadder and wiser. She still wants to know why, but she is well aware of the fact that there is no definitive answer. She is on the fence between country and modern day Americana, with a voice that may remind you of Lucinda Williams and Caroline Herring. Two years-in-the making this album is a heart-felt plea for understanding the feelings of adopted children.
The Foundling is distributed through Razor & Tie. Buy it CD Baby.
