Yukon is the brainchild of Dutch producer, arranger, composer and bass player Hans Weekhout scored a big hit in the Nineties as Capricorn with 20Hz. His arranging and producing skills didn't go unnoticed and he worked with Prince and Falco. With another one of his bands, Peplab, he composed the score for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a flawed blockbuster that couldn't be saved by his music.
Famous For Nothing, Ready For Anything is a labor of love. Weekhout wasn't on a schedule or a budget, which allows him to showcase his compsing skills alongside three covers. Bowie's Ashes to Ashes is an obvious choice for a dance veteran, Where Is My Mind is most likely included to fulfill a teenage fantasy of playing (and singing) with the Pixies and What You Allow To Enter Your Body is a heady mixture of the Julien Clerc song Elle voulait qu'on l'appelle Venise with sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.
Weekhout's own songs are build around the beat with treated synthesizer flourishes. It works best when singer Irene Wiersma is allowed to languish on top of it all. With a lazy, soft voice she irons out the edges of the old school backing track (Hometown, Keep Me Behind). Final track Spikkels is a slow moving monster that sends the dance crowd on its way - with a guitar snippet as head's up for a slight increase of the tempo that brings the album to a close.
