The DownBeat Keys mix R&B, funk and hiphop. The Brooklyn band thankfully employs a human rhythm section resulting in a lively back beat for the two vocalists. With a keyboard player who takes his cues from the Eighties, their album Instant Gratification is topped off by a whiff of Living Colour flourishes thrown in by the guitar player (who also plays Sax on some of the tracks).
While they will not go down in history as a groundbreaking ensemble, they are the kind band that can turn some heads during music festivals on a glorious Summer day.
Instant Gratification is released on Squibtone Records. Buy it from iTunes. Their previous album Invisble Ink is available as a free download from the band's website.
