John Hostetter is very much his own man. The Harrisburg, VA, musician, has just released Red Square, which is a sort of lo-fi concept album about love with instrumental interludes.
Invoking scary fictional characters of the past - Medusa and Frankenstein he sings about a woman who keeps her distance. Nothing works to get her - try to come closer and she will unleash her Black Magic, while her admirers wrap themselves in layers of vocals inspired by Brian Wilson.
Red Square is modern day folk album that gets under your skin.
Red Square is released on Funny/Not Funny Records. Limited run of 100 purple tapes with cover art. Comes with a download card. For the tape-challenged: plenty of outlets carry the album for your digital servicing.
