Amanda Palmer knows how to please a crowd. Hand them a cover of a familiar song and twist it around a bit tongue firmly in cheek, and they will love for you it.
Amanda Palmer Plays The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele is an EP grown out of her regular live cover of Creep. Despite the title it's not all just her and a Ukulele. On Exit Music (For A Film) she plays the piano, simple and straightforward, but making sure that every note counts, and adding a string arrangement that underpins the sadness of the song.
The Ukulele works best for No Surprises and you are treated to two live renditions of Creep, the first a hoarse out-of-key soundcheck recorded in Berlin and the second one is a slowed down version recorded in Prague, going Hell for leather for those difficult high notes. She doesn't quite make it, but she is enjoying it immensely. A fucking special EP, indeed.
Amanda Palmer Plays The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele is released on 8ft. Records. Release date July 20th. Limited edition vinyl also available.
