When Warren Haynes isn't playing with Gov't Mule, he keeps himself busy with the Allman Brothers, playing with other bands he likes (quite a lot) and putting together the Annual Christmas Benefit in Asheville, NC - which gives him yet another stage to play on. 2CD sets were released in 2007 with selected tracks from the 1999 and 2000 editions, and now Volume 3 sees the light of day covering the 2001 installment.
The usual suspects join in for the fun, with notable performances of Drivin’ N Cryin’ with Black Crowes guitarist Audley Freed and West Coast blues singer Alvin Youngblood Hart. Haynes himself was then a hired hand for Phil Lesh & Friends and comes up with a great take of Night Of A Thousand Stars. In true all star fashion the concert ends with a roaring Rockin’ In the Free World, with a freight train bass courtesy of Dave Schools.
The Benefit Concert Vol. 3 is a tribute to classic rock and blues - the kind of music that needs to be heard live. The tracks are allowed to breathe - none of nasty compression that kills of the nuances.
Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Volume 3 is released on Evil Teen Records. boy it from the Gov't Mule webshop.
