R.E.M.: new album with Patti Smith and Eddie Vedder

Spin reports that the new R.E.M. album Collapse Into Nowfeatures notable guest. Patti Smith sings on Blue and Eddie Vedder lends a hand for It Happened Today. Also on board are Peaches and Lenny Kaye:

A yet-to-be-named song, which Mills promises will feature the word "alligator" in its title, features Peaches on vocals and Smith's longtime collaborator Lenny Kaye on guitar.

Smith collaborated with Stipe on "E-Bow the Letter", a song on R.E.M.'s New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

Collapse Into Now is scheduled for an early 2011 release.
