The 2005 Matisyahu album Live at Stubb's as a kind of breakthrough for the hazzan hiphop reggae singer. Once again the tapes were rolling during his August 18, 2010 show in Austin, TX and the results can be heard on Live at Stubb's Vol. II. A camera crew was on hand to preserve the proceedings for the DVD.
Over the years Matisyahu added snippets of loud rock guitar to his musical palette, which spices up a songs like Youth that could have been recorded wby The Clash in their Sandinista phase. He sings at length about his religious beliefs, but those never get in the way of the music. With a strong voice that can reach the higher notes without any trouble, he can holler, speak and whisper. He is backed by his Dub Trio. Stu "Bassie" Brooks (bass guitar), Joe Tomino (drums) and D.P. Holmes (guitar) can project a far larger band, locking into a transcending groove that will test the limits of you audio setup.
