Everybody who is serious about music knows a Robert Johnson song, the legendary Delta blues man who wrote 29 songs before he died under rather sketchy circumstances at the age of 27.
Blues band Big Head Todd and the Monsters are celebrating his legacy with a hosts of legendary blues men as the Big Head Blues Club. B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm all lend a hand for the tribute album 100 Years of Robert Johnson, recorded quickly during a five day session in October 2010 at Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN.
The Stones did it, Cream, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead all bowed their head for Johnson, but for this tribute Big Head and Co. keep it simple. Nobody is tryign to emulate Johnson's unique guitar style or his particular phrasing. David "Honeyboy" Edwards (95) was a friend of Johnson and it's a treat to hear him perform Sweet Home Chicago with Charlie Musselwhite. John Belushi would have loved this album.
100 Years of Robert Johnson is released on Ryko / Big Records.
