The Phish show at Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, NY on October 20, 2010, went down as one of the most memorable of the band's 2010 Fall tour. The show is released as Live In Utica, a 2-DVD/2-CD Box Set, with the full show on DVD and minus three songs on CD (the first two songs of Set 1 and the Encore are missing).
Phish played a relatively small venue (cap. 5500) and built their first set to Guyute, one of their more challenging composed songs, which was teased throughout the remainder of the set. The Vermont band relied on their back catalog - Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan was the only song of their latest studio album Joy. Ever since Phish reunited in 2009 fans have been clamoring for jams and segues and on this night they got a few pretty good ones. David Bowie was augmented with a few snippets of Wilson and the coupling of Saw It Again > Run Like An Antelope was inspired, with keyboard player Page McConnell leading the way.

For the second set, the band strung the songs together in two lenghty segments. Kicking off with bass player Mike Gordon singing The Who's Quadrophenia stand-out track Drowned the audience seems to realise tha they are in for a special treat. They get Sand, a warhorse of guitar player Trey Anastasio's TAB side project and drummer Jon Fishman show his chops during the mellow Theme From The Bottom and the hard rock of Axilla 1. Another Gamehendge song, Tela opens segue number two, with a quirky Split Open and Melt shortly reprising after Have Mercy and a rather short Piper, before the band ends the set with Slave To The Traffic, a slow song to calm down the crowd. Smiles all round during Led Zeppelin encore Good Times, Bad Times.
Since Utica was an indoor show, the cameras caught plenty of the light show by Chris Kuroda, always an essential part of Phish in concert. It's hard work to keep up with the twists and turns, but Kuroda manages to keep up, counting through the show working his faders and knobs and mumbling at his laptop, while directing his assistants. The DVDs should be watched on a set with a huge screen and 5.1 audio.
