Tom Fuller has ditched the headband that was very much at large when he released his previous album Abstract Man. The Chicago musician still peddles middle-of-the-road poppy AOR songs, but at least they sound better than before - that's what you get when you are playing with part of Paul McCartney's backup band.
Ask shows some signs of branching out to new musical territories, not as much in the straight suburban friendly rock of the lead single Lovers and the title track, but a song like Doin' Nothin' has some very welcome irony ad Merci Beacoup is served with a nice rumbling guitar sound. Fuller's vocals sound a little more road worn and he lets rip (well, a bit) during Morphine Maureen.
Ask is released on Red Cap Records.
