Chicago heavy organ rock trio Mutts have unleashed the first half of their ambitious double album project. Separation Anxiety is plugged-in part of the set -the acoustic Object Permanence will be released later this year.
Grounded in big city blues and rawk they can tear through a song at breakneck speed (Now Now Now), but as a whole they have slowed down considerably with tunes like Uninvited and God, Country, Grave. There is real anger in their lyrics, most notably in Washington (Still) Owns People and the post-nuclear war Half Mile.
Recommended if you like screaming Seventies heavy organ a la Jon Lord, with a bit of funk riding on top, and lots of bravado.
Mutts:
Rob Buckstaff: bass, drums
Mike Maimone: keyboards, vocals
Chris Pagnani: drums
