This Mark I line-up (Rod Evans – lead vocals; Ritchie Blackmore – guitars; Jon Lordr – organ, backing vocals; Nick Simper – bass, backing vocals; Ian Paice – drums) would release two more albums, The Book of Taliesyn and Deep Purple, before Evans and Simper were edged out to be replaced with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, to become the classic Mark II line-up who were one the pioneers of hard rock.
