London pop quartet The Autumnkind were on the brink of a breakthrough when their bass player called it quits to join the navy. After cutting an acoustic single in 2011, a new line-up was assembled and they were ready to pick up the scent of fame and began working on a new EP. Cartography is a pleasant effort, although they should steer clear of the borderline boy band-isms that have sneaked in into Time Will Tell.
Rooted in Britpop with a hint of psychedelica, The Autumnkind, is ready for another try to reach out beyond London and their native Hertfordshire. Stand-out track Glasshouses, with a melody that is a blend of Echo and The Bunnymen and Crowded House, might do the trick.
The Autumnkind:
Marc Ozall: vocals, guitar
Simon Treasure: drums
Adam Lunn: guitar
Martin Bradford-Gago: bass
