The Avett Brothers: The Carpenter

Folk pop trio The Avett Brothers have entered the mainstream when no-one was paying attention. Their new album The Carpenter won't disappoint their new fans, but those who have been following the career of the Concord, NC band a bit longer will have trouble digesting this batch of 12 new tunes and lament the lack of bite and anger.

There are two just plain awful songs about the perennial battle between man and woman, with the latter having the upper hand. And when they try death, the result is a lifeless ditty. Oh, it sounds good - the music isn't the problem, but those lyrics... Corny and tired poetic imagery. This carpenter has hit his own thumb. Hopefully it serves as a wake up for the band call before entering the realms of middle-of-the-road crap. Back to the workshop.
