Dutch electro pioneers Minny Pops are back with their first new music in 30 years. The new single Waiting For This To Happen b/w Glistering will be released through O Genesis Recordings on November 26th. The Pops were at the forefront of the short-lived but highly influential Ultra movement in the late Seventies and early Eighties. They were on the fabled Factory label back then.
After an intimate warm-up gig in Rotterdam in December 2011, the reformed band played a few festivals in The Netherlands and the UK to promote the Standstill To Motion set, a live CD/DVD package featuring 1981 performances in Amsterdam and New York.
The new single was recorded at Eve Studios, Stockport, with Tim Burgess producing and James Spencer engineering. Both tracks show that are still capable of coming up the dark dance tunes that secured their status as a cult band. The current line-up features singer Wally van Middendorp, Wim Dekkers (keyboards), Pieter Mulder (bass) , Mark Ritsema (guitar) and Thomas Myrmel (programming).
To celebrate, Minny Pops return to London to play a special show in conjunction with The Quietus and O Genesis at The Lexington on Monday the 26th of November 2012. Visitors can also enjoy a live set from Pavlov’s Children, readings by Craig Parkinson and DJ spots by Tim Burgess and Nik Colk Void ofFactory Floor.
