The Research Turtles have finally released the second (and final) part of their Mankiller project. Still very much in love with Britpop the Lake Charles, LA band zap through six tracks in about 15 minutes. The vocal harmonies sound more focused and the guitars are more upfront. Girl trouble is the subject of choice, which could have easily led to cheesy tunes. Thankfully the band sidesteps most of the pitfalls, which the notable exception of Into You which crosses the boy band border.
The stand-out track is Break It Up, a twin guitar fueled power-pop anthem that could have revived the career of Huey Lewis or even Robbie Williams.
