Mama Loo are a Dutch trio who like to tell stories wrapped in adventurous progressive pop. Taking cues from early Seventies predecessors like Alquin and Supersister main man Edwin de Herder leads his band through the back alleys of popular music, with quirky rhythms, a bit of funk, talk box, and a string section. Rory van de Bergh is a fluid, melodic bass player and De Herder's long time drummer Gerrie Spaansen can catch up with De Herder's improvised guitar solos without missing a beat.
Whitecap is one of those albums deserving the listener's undivided attention. Lead single Dance gets stuck in your head real quick, but songs like Bitter Heart and the jazzy inklings of Storm need some time to sink properly. Can some enterprising soul offer these men a vinyl release?
