Three musicians contributing three songs each. With their second full-length Culture Clash power fusion rock trio The Aristocrats take equal credits for an adventurous cosmic journey. Guthrie Govan (guitar), Bryan Beller (bass) and Marco Minnemann (drums) can look into groove, move from jazz to rock to metal without blinking their eyes. Prowess and dexterity can get in the way of the actual composition - "look, mum, I can play really fucking fast", but the trio delivers their pyrotechnics with a delicate finesse: not with an axe but with craftmanship. It's loud, but they are not trying to overpower each other. Energy is the keyword.
Culture Clash is an assembly of styles - Satriani inspired shredding in the title track and a hint of surf on top of the bluesy jazz of Louisville Stomp (you would have needed at least two Saxophone players to cover Govan's licks had this been recorded in the Jazz age) and prog metal during Ohhhh Noooo and Living The Dream. Drummer Marco Minnemann can take over the melody like Keith Moon used to do and bass player Bryan Beller has a bindle filled with runs that will keep four-string students busy for years.
Culture Clash is a released thru BOING Music. Buy it from their website. The deluxe CD comes with a bonus documentary DVD featuring interviews and live video footage of the recording sessions.
