Roots trio The Wood Brothers have made their most adventurous album to date. Most of the songs The Muse were cut in Nashville, with Buddy Miller acting as producer. Chris Wood's nasal lead vocals bring back the heyday of The Band, with brother Chris working his magic on the upright bass. Non-brother Janot Rix is now fully integrated in the sibling's sound.
With this versatile percussionist and an ace melodica player (yes, there's such a thing) on board The Wood Brothers have broadened their sound. Besides Americana and jazz, there's country, blues, a hint of gospel and the occasional rock guitar riff. At his stage in their career they might be considered as the best roots music band in the USA.
