Portuguese band la flag are an instrumental post-rock band, the heavy-handed answer to Mogwai. Their new album spargelzeit grabs unsuspecting listener by throat with a slew of in your face slow moving melodic mayhem. Too bad that the tracks are brickwalled to the hilt, killing all the dynamics and nuances. You need valleys to appreciate the peaks. Maybe they should have a chat with the folks of The Fierce And The Dead to get it right next time.
spargelzeit is a self-released album. Buy it (digital is pay-what-you-want) from their website.
