Naïm Amor, a French guitarist now living in Tuscon, AZ, is a musician you might have heard on Howe Gelb and Calexico albums, the kind of guys who can fill holes in a track with a few choice notes. He did a lot of film scores and his new album Hear the Walls has a cinematic feel, the soundtrack for a road movie that hasn't been made yet.
Amor is still trying to fit in. Listen to the melancholic instrumental Learning America, a gentle conversation between strings and acoustic guitar or the soft spoken No Way Back. Being a stranger in strange land isn't a bad thing for creating jazz-tinged Americana musings. The Old World and the New World collided, but there are no casualties. Recommended if you like Nick Drake and Ry Cooder.
Hear the Walls will be released on vinyl by Fort Lowell Records. Release date: November 25th.
