Ohio experimentalist Todd Tobias tackles another concept on his new album Tristes Tropiques: travellers who trod all over the locals, raving about unique experiences that have been done countless times before due to the rave reviews in Lonely Planet guides and such. They don't give a fuck about the people who actually live there. They are acting as extras the background of their selfies, adding a bit of couleur locale.
On his previous album Tobias visited Impossible Cities. This time he uses his post-rock and drones for instrumental trips to real places, whose unique selling points are fading quickly. Dark and captivating compositions telling stories without using words.
Tristes Tropiques is released in Holland via Tiny Room Records. The rest of the world can buy it from his website.
