Ready for the future by looking back. The seeds for the Atlanta based electro-soul septet Heavy Chevy were sown in 2011 when Skape Zilla and Luke Zollinger recorded a few demos. They had been a successful producers team with a shared love for old school soul records, sampling the classics to spice up the sound of hip-hop and rap acts. That source became the launch pad for a modern funky soul band.
The band's debut album Black Light is filled with grooving bass lines from yesteryear, swinging trombone and a smattering of electronics that will appeal to the jamtronics niche (Disco Biscuits, Lotus) and soul dance ravers alike. From the Sci-fi-tinged Holy to the NOLA jazz meets Afrobeat vibe of Stepping Out and the catchy floor filler You Got Me this band wants their audience their asses off. With a tech team consisting producer Graham Marsh (Cee Lo Green), engineer Ralph Cacciurri (Outkast), and mastering engineer John Horesco (Lecrae, B.O.B.) the songs were recorded with a dynamic range with no sign of brick walling.
