Allen Toussaint, songwriter, producer, arranger and performer, died in Spain yesterday in the midst of an European tour. A giant in the New Orleans R&B music scene, worked with Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Dr. John, the Meters, Paul McCartney and hosts of others.
Toussaint lost all his belongings after hurricane Katrina had hit his home in 2005. He did not let this stop him and he moved back to New Orleans pretty soon after this disaster, writing and arranging music. His command of the piano and his signature touch will live on in classic tracks such as "Fortune Teller", "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)", "Southern Nights", "Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky", "I'll Take a Melody" and "Get Out of My Life, Woman".
