Chicago band Vaudevileins serve up a healthy meal of old school rock with a bit of powerpop and grunge on their new EP Transmission. Right off the bat anger and energy are the keywords, with the put-down song Chasing Time straight into the screamo power ballad Faded.
These guys have obviously ran into some serious girl trouble and responded as musicians always do: write a song about it. Snow is the stand-out track, with rahter good metaphores inserted into the lyrics and succinct, restrained guitar vignets. The short instrumental SOB with Soundgarden alike riffs is a welcome breather track for the singer, who has been bearing his soul with commendable intensity. They call it a wrap with the AOR title track that could have been better with a louder bass.
Vaudevileins:
Jeff Julian: vocals, guitar
Andrew Payne: lead guitar
William Aldridge: bass
Brennen Chouinard: drums
