Berlin based rockers Odd Couple are actually a trio. Dennis Schulze has joined Jascha Kreft and Tammo Dehn as a full member on the new album Yada Yada. They have a soft spot for synths and messing around with effects. The songs themselves are pretty basic energetic rockers about modern day mishaps, topped off with the kind of vocal treatments that were all the rage when ELO released their Out of the Blue album way back in 1977. There is nothing wrong with channeling the vibe of yesteryear, but Yada Yada sounds murky and dated.
They should consider going for less is more for the next one. No need to strangle the fist-pumping catchy hard rock that is now buried in the mix. Pick the title track, the bass driven Katta and the stop-and-start guitar riff of Robotik for an EP and send the rest of the songs back to the mixing engineer to remove all the fluff.
Yada Yada is a released thru Cargo Records (vinyl, limited blue vinyl, CD, digital). Buy it from their website.
