Dutch-German rock quartet SUiT are a technically proficient outfit who need to move away from the things they learned as rock academies students. Their debut full-length The Girl, The God, The Rush is like a course in guitar-oriented music - mainly blues, rock and pop. No doubt their teachers are impressed with what they have accomplished so far, but now it's time to find their own sound. Make it a little grittier for starters and not as much sheen on the vocals. They know how to do that in concert. The live version of the title track is on point, a passionate warts-and-all rendition that should have replaced the tepid studio version.
There is some good stuff on the album - Water My Friend, Robot Sweat and 1Q84, but that's not enough graduate to the bigger stages. Homework for what they hope to achieve: go to a record store and stock up on albums by De Staat, Queens of the Stone Age, and Navarone. Class dismissed.
