American folk singer Eugene Ruffolo goes back to his Italian roots on his Canto per Mangiare, combining two things he loves: music and food. This collection of folk songs is a full course meal that should be enjoyed with a glass of good wine in the company of friends. His jazzy phrasing, superb acoustic guitar parts and stylish strings give it a summer evening feel. No problem if your Italian is a bit rusty (or non-existent) - Ruffollo gets his message across backed by a smattering of ace musicians who can both follow and lead.
The album is accompanied by a book Canto per Mangiare: Songs and stories from an Italian kitchen with background information about the songs and Italian dishes. For Ruffolo this project was a trip down memory lane and he invites you to join him and have a taste yourselves.
Canto per Mangiare is a self-released album. Buy it from his website.
