English New Wave quartet The Radio Set picked up rave reviews last year when their debut EP. A fresh stack of songs keeps the moemnetum going on their new EP#2. Preceded by the catchy as Hell single Gotta Crush on You - produced by Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) - the band dig a little deeper lyrically, urging listeners to stand tall (Bullet), give in to well l-served relaxing after a busy day (Long Cigarette) and allow themselves to swept of their feet by the prospects of a new love (Breathe).
EP#2 is a celebration of early Eighties music - upbeat against all odds. They can get a crowd dancing their asses off, thanks to the locked-in-the-groove rhythm section, old school synths and blink-and-you'll-miss-'em guitar fills. Top it off with a lead singer who can deliver indie pop phrasings effortlessly and then you have a band that can connect with an age demographic covering a couple of decades: timeless goodness. The EP ends with a Big Love Mix of Gotta Crush on You, a reworking that deserves a 12" vinyl release. Too bad that Factory Records is no longer around to make that happen.
