French nomadic abstract folk duo An Eagle in your Mind have limited themselves to sparse instrumentation on their new album Miraculous Weapons to enable them to play their songs live. Sophia (vocals, backing vocals, guitar, shruti box, organ) and Raoul (backing vocals, percussions, guitar) move through their material at a leisurely pace. Rhythm comes first, by way of an acoustic guitar, whispering drums and a little bit of electronics. Once that is sorted, the vocals are allowed to roam free with loops to create and extra layer of call-and-response.
For a duo their knack for creating complex interaction is almost uncanny. Newcomers are advised to start with the accessible country mood of Cave of the Darling and the folk noir of Angola Moon before slowly work their way to Wild Fruits Kingdom. Recommended if you like Deleyaman and Dead Can Dance.
