Sometimes a singer-songwriter needs a little convincing to record the songs she has written. Besides writing alt-country songs Hadley McCall Thackston had been dabbling in acting, which turned out not be her thing. A friend urged her to post a demo on Facebook. Singer David Corley tipped off Hugh Christopher Brown, producer, multi-instrumentalist and studio owner. Thackston took the plunge after being invited to cut an album.
The songs on her self-titled album touch base with the Jazz age, country and folk, all the key genres for an ace Americana record. For a newcomer on the scene her vocal delivery is pretty damn amazing: totally at ease storytelling and bravado rolled into one. Recommended if you like Eilen Jewell and Suzanne Jarvie.
