Dr John, the legendary musician who played am unique blend of blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie and rock 'n' roll, is dead at 77. When trying to capture the sound of New Orleans in a single swoop, a healthy dose of the doctor's medicine would have sufficed. Colourful, swinging, quite a bit of voodoo, and of course plenty of joie de vivre.
His birth certificate stated his name as Malcolm John Rebennack, but since his 1968 debut album Gris-Gris, hew as known to the world as Dr John, ace pianist and one-of-a kind vocalist.
