The Illness, a loos collective consisting of musicians signed to Leeds based niche label Sea Records, have been messing around for years to get it right, but their perseverance paid off in spades. Their double A-side single Descending G b/w Phrases Redacted features two members from legendary indie rock band Pavement to handle the vocals: Steve West and Bob Nastanovich.
Their words fit the free-flowing, drone noise rock cooked up by the band like a glove. Descending G has a Nineties vibe, with hints of The Stooges in a subdued, partly acoustic mode. Phrases Redacted has the relentness intensity of The Gift by the Velvet Underground topped off by the aloof delivery a la The B-52's'Fred Schneider. A full album is in the works.
Descending G b/w Phrases Redacted is released thru Sea Records (12" vinyl, digital).
