London psych-tinged glam rock 'n' roll quartet Flare Voyant have written a song about their mate Paul Stroud, whose claim to fame is that he had driven rock royalty over the years (Jimmy Page, Rick Wakeman, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend ...). It made sense that the cabbie would star in the video for Paul's Funky Cab driving around in the city, with his best friend Nigel Proktor being typecasted to act out the part of an eccentric passenger.
The swinging tribute to the Big Smoke and its cab drivers serves as the lead single for their new EP Elusive Times, due for release on November 7. Note the smart rhythm changes to emulate the shifting of gears and the sound of the bustling traffic.
