What started out as a one-of collection of guitar excursions quickly evolved into something bigger. With the release of Completing The Cycle Richard Thomas inadvertently created a trilogy of homemade albums by his solo project Mint Biscuit. The basic format is simple: he picks a guitar, chooses an amp and a few effect pedals and let his fingers do the talking. By doing so he is able to unleash his inner Marc Bolan (The New Amp Question, City On Lockdown), go mental and metal in the aptly named Metallicanteven, and stumble upon a catchy motif a la Adrian Belew in Turn That Fan Up To Eleven.
It is obvious that Thomas is itching to play. Hopefully he can reconnect with like-minded musicians in the same room soon. He sure can bring a huge stack of ideas to rehearsal. Tracks like the chugging Trainline Blues and Spanish Brown Cow Blues can really blossom in a power trio format.
Completing The Cycle is a self-released album. Buy it (pay-what-you-want) from his website.
