Canadian retro act Dany Laj & The Looks offer a candy-coloured trip through vintage rock 'n' roll and power pop on their new album Ten Easy Pieces. Bass player Jeanette Dowling is Laj's muse and the love of his life, inspiring him to write ten A-sides, with mostly sunny side up lyrics. Doubt creeps in every now and then. Is it really happening or could he loose her if he isn't paying attention? Or even worse - the horror - some other guy might steal her away.
This is an album for lovers of all ages, brimming with joy, and a dead ringer for Summer playlists. Guitar players should take note of Laj's less is more approach. He mixes 60s garage rock and 70s power pop a la Cheap Trick to create a one-man wall of sound that is goddamn catchy.
Ten Easy Pieces is released on vinyl via We Are Busy Bodies and on CD via Rum Bar Records.
