French-Italian duo Ideini finally came out with a song of their own, Iris, a couple of months ago, after testing the waters with a handful of choice covers. For a firstborn it was a remarkable effort, setting the bar high for the next one. NVL doesn't disappoint. Producer Theo Duplus and vocalist Francesca Martino constructed the track on a sturdy maze of beats and tinkling keyboards. The jazzy vocals keep it altogether - she is her own backing singer, so it is all perfectly in tune and in sync. And while the lyrics tackling very serious matters - inequality and freedom - the overall mood of this triphop meets dreampop excursion is very relaxing indeed. Music can be a means to escape to a safer inner world.
NVL is a self-released single. Buy it from their website.
