Dark wave art rock duo Lore City relies on tension and release for the songs on their new album Participation Mystique. Laura Mariposa Williams (vocals, keyboard, guitar) and Eric Angelo Bessel (percussion, keyboard, guitar). Adding elements of post-rock, ambient and a pinch of psychedelica allowed them to create slow-moving, cinematic soundscapes that unfold like flowers in the first rays of the sun.
Repetitive motifs push the songs forward, with the vocals hovering above in a way that is both captivating eerie. They don't use many words, but make sure that each one of them counts. Get ready for an exploration of a dreamlike, transformative state, and enjoy a musical trip without any side effects.
Participation Mystique is a self-released album (vinyl, digital). Buy it from their website.

Nice record. Somewhere between The Velvet Underground and The Vyllies and, um, Air?
ReplyDeleteNo, not Air, the band with those repetitive key loops and atmospheric drums and strings is called New Build, a Brit synth pop new wave group. Album "Pour It On".
