Oakland based slacker shoegaze duo The Acharis go deep and dark on their new single False Positive. Partners Mila Puccini (vocals, bass, beats) and Shaun Wagner (guitar, vocals, drums) teamed up in 2015, sharing a love for nineties grunge and noise, adding humour as a welcome extra ingredient.
Based on a riff that had been on Wagner's back burner since he was a teenager, it is basically about wandering around thinking about what to do next. The lyrics don't try to tell a full, coherent, because that just doesn't work in a rock song. He thought of calling it Elephant at one time, citing The Smashing Pumpkins, but he changed his mind and decided to go out screaming "There’s an elephant in the room. A rhinoceros. A hippopotamus. It’s true". Anyone who has ever felt depressed, can relate to that.
False Positive is a track from their forthcoming new album Blue Sky / Grey Heaven out November 5 via Cranes Records (vinyl, digital).
